Arrows Ease Relegation Fears With Victory Over Ajax

Golden Arrows ended a four-game winless run with a 1-0 victory over Ajax Cape Town in the Absa Premiership on Sunday afternoon.
Abafana Bes’thende were to be in control in the opening stages of the match while the visitors showed their game plan early, playing long balls.
Lerato Lamola nearly opened the scoring for Clinton Larsen’s charges in the 16th minute following a good cross from Danny Venter on the left side of the box, but his header was tipped over the bar by goalkeeper Brandon Petersen.
The home side were awarded a penalty in the 26th minute after Lamola was brought down inside the box. Limbikani Mzava took the responsibility of the spot-kick and made it 1-0.
Arrows were confident going forward after 35 minutes and utilised the ball well in the last third while the Urban Warriors were soaking up the pressure.
Chances were hard to come by in the closing stages of the first half and Arrows went into the break leading by one goal.
The Mother City club were a better a side in the opening 10 minutes of the second stanza, utilising wing play with Siyanda Zwane threatening with his overlaps on the right side.
The match opened up after 65 minutes as the visitors were now forced to go out of their defensive blocks and attack.
However, the Urban Warriors looked to attack through the middle, which was congested and they were unable to find many openings.
Arrows were happy to sit back and soak up the pressure in the closing stages, as they managed to see out the closing stages of the half to seal an important win.
