Absa Premiership
Result: Golden Arrows 2-0 Cape Town City
Date: 14 September 2016
Venue: Prince Magogo Stadium
Golden Arrows beat Cape Town City 2-0 in their Absa Premiership clash on Wednesday night.
The opening quarter of the tie featured a competitive midfield battle as both sides probed for weaknesses while trying to maintain possession.
Matthew Sim did well to put the Arrows defence under some pressure and managed to get a shot on target but Maximilian Mbaeva was on point and made the save.
Lehlohonolo Nonyane, Nkanyiso Cele, and Danny Phiri combined to set up Siyabonga Dube for a shot from long range but his effort went high and wide of the target.
The breakthrough arrived in the 40th minute as Nonyane played the ball to Sibiya who teed it up for Vuyani Ntanga to find the back of the net for Arrows.
Cape Town City piled on the pressure in the second half and spent long periods in the Arrows third of the pitch but just couldn't find a way through.
Sim had a chance to shoot from inside the Arrows box in the last few minutes, but his effort lacked the power necessary to beat Mbaeva.
Siphelele Magubane unleashed an excellent shot from 25 yards at the death, but Shu-Aib Walters pulled off a great save.
In stoppage time the result was secured as substitute Wayde Jooste hit the back of the City net to claim a 2-0 win.
