Date: 8 August 2018
Venue: Goble Park
Maritzburg United suffered a second successive loss in the Absa Premiership after going down 2-1 to Free State Stars on Wednesday evening.
The opening half was a poor display of South African football with both teams gifting possession to their opponents due to poor passing and bad decision making in the final third.
Consequently, chances in front of goal were few and far between and the game entered the half time break locked at 0-0.
Stars made a change early in the second half with Judas Moseamedi replacing the hapless Eleazar Rodgers in the 53th minute.
This made an immediate impact with Moseamedi creating space for Harris Tchilimbou in the 65th minute who found the back of the net with clinical finish, 1-0.
Maritzburg threw players forward in search of an equaliser, but their chances suffered a big blow when they were reduced to ten men in the 85th minute following a red card for Fortune Makaringe.
Three minutes later, Goodman Dlamini doubled Stars lead with a deadly finish as Ea Lla Koto looked well on their way for their first win.
Maritzburg did find some consolation with a goal courtesy of Keletso Makgalwa in the 90th minute, but it was to little too late as they game ended 2-1.
