Venue: Goble Park
Free State Stars registered their second Absa Premiership win of the season after defeating Highlands Park 1-0 at Goble Park on Saturday evening.
The rainy conditions worked against Highlands in the 19th minute as Badra Ali Sangare's handling effort allowed Sabelo Nyembe to slot into an empty net, but the striker's shot was held up by a puddle.
From then on, Stars dominated the possession and looked to utilise the pace and creativity from Yusuf Jappie, who whipped in a couple inviting crosses.
The game was delayed for 10 minutes after 37 minutes as the flood lights on the one side at Goble Park went out.
Once the game resume, the tempo did pick and it was Highlands who nearly went ahead in the 43rd minute as Mothobi Mvala headed wide of the upright.
Ten minutes into the second half, Highlands went agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock as Spiwe Msimango's looping header crashed against the upright.
However, Stars were in front minutes later as Eleazar Rodgers' header back into the box found Tshepo Tema, who fired a left-footed effort past Kapini, 1-0.
The were host were forced to play the final 15 minutes with ten men after Nyiko Mobbie was sent off a four stamp on Lindokuhle Mbatha.
Sangare ensured Stars left Goble Park with three points as the Stars shot-stopper produced a stunning save to keep out Peter Shalulile's strike.
