Stars Return To Winning Ways

Absa Premiership

Result: Free State Stars 2-1 Golden Arrows

Date: 06 December 2017

Venue: Goble Park

Free State Stars returned to winning ways in the Absa Premiership with a 2-1 victory over Golden Arrows at Goble Park on Wednesday evening.

Both sides looked to find their rhythm in the opening stages, although Stars managed to carve out a couple half chances in the opening 10 minutes.

Arrows, meanwhile, were finding it tough to create clear cut chances for most of the opening 20 minutes.

In the 29th minute, the visitors did create an opening at goal as Siphelele Magubane blazed his effort over the crossbar from close range.

After a quiet spell in the half, Arrows had another chance just before the break but, Thabo Molefe failed to hit the target before Anas fired wide at the other end for Stars.

The match remained goalless at the halftime break.

Four minutes into the second half, Stars broke the deadlock as Mohammed Anas picked out Goodman Dlamini, who poked the ball past Nkosingiphile Gumede, 1-0.

The lead was doubled on 59 minutes, thanks to a strike from Sinethemba Jantjie, who scored via a set-piece.

Arrows pulled a goal back a minute later, as Magubane collected a pass from Zolani Nkombelo before firing home from close range.

Larsen threw on Lerato Lamola and Wayde Jooste for the final 20 minutes as they pushed for an equaliser.

The visitors pushed numbers forward in an attempt to secure a point, however the Stars defence managed to hold out until the final whistle.

The victory sees Stars end their four-game winless run in the Absa Premiership.
