Free State Derby Ends All Square
Absa Premiership Report: Free State Stars v Bloemfontein Celtic 14 April 2018
Result: Free State Stars 1-1 Bloemfontein Celtic
Date: 14 April 2018
Venue: Goble Park
The Free State derby ended all square as Free State Stars and Bloemfontein Celtic drew 1-1 at Goble Park on Saturday evening.
It was a cagey start as both sides looked to ease into the encounter in the opening 15 minutes.
The first real attempt at goal came after 20 minutes, with Lucky Baloyi sending a left-footed volley wide of the mark from distance.
Unfortunately for the fans in attendance, that proved to be the only real effort at goal in the opening 45 minutes.
However, Stars broke the deadlock shortly after the break thanks to a strike a from Goodman Dlamini.
The hosts' joy was short-lived, though, as Celtic leveled matters on 55 minutes thanks to a close-range finish from Victor Letsoalo.
Similarly to the first half, clear-cut chances were few and far between in the second period, despite the lively start from both teams.
With time running out, Luc Eymael introduced Mohammed Anas for Dlamini with 10 minutes remaining while Vusi Shikweni replaced Jacky Motshegwa for Celtic, although the changes had no telling effect on the scoreline.
