Eleazar Rodgers kept Free State Stars’ survival hopes alive after netting late to salvage a 2-2 draw against Black Leopards on Saturday evening.
Ea Lla Koto did not make any changes from their 3-2 win over Bloemfontein Celtic, while Lidoda Duvha made three alterations from their last outing, as Robert Ng’ambi, Phathutshedzo Nange and Joseph Mhlongo were thrown into the fray.
Rodgers had a wonderful opportunity to open the scoring for Stars in the 12th minute after being setup by Sinethemba Jantjie, but the lanky striker could not find the target.
Seven minutes later, Harris Tchilimbou squandered an opportunity for the hosts with a header that sailed slightly over the bar, but their frustrations would no carry on for too long.
Nikola Kavazovic’s charges broke the deadlock five minutes before halftime thanks to an own goal by Thivhavhudzi Ndou.
Six minutes into the second half, Mwape Musonda brought Leopards back in the game as he levelled matters with a brilliant header inside the box.
Stars introduced Martin Kizza in place of Yussuf Jappie in the 69th minute while the visitors brought on Lesedi Kapinga in place of Nange with 15 minutes remaining to refresh their attack.
The substitution seemed to have paid off for the Limpopo outfit as Kapinga grabbed the lead for Dylan Kerr’s charges with 12 minutes remaining.
However, Rodgers equalised for Stars two minutes before time to salvage a point in their pursuit of survival.
