Absa Premiership
Result: Free State Stars 2-0 Baroka FC
Date: 3 February 2018
Venue: Goble Park Stadium
Goals from Goodman Dlamini and Siphelele Mthembu, handed Free State Stars a 2-0 win over Baroka FC in an Absa Premiership match at Goble Park Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Free State attacked from the first whistle and had the first shot on goal in the sixth minute, when Paulus Masehe unleashed a long range shot, which sailed inches over the target.
Baroka struggled to find their rhythm and created very little in front of goal in the opening half.
Instead, it was all Free State with Sinethemba Jantjie trying his luck from the edge of the box, but his effort skimmed the wrong side of the post.
Free State did open the scoring six minutes later, when Goodman Dlamini broke into the box and beat the keeper with a well-placed shot, 1-0.
Stars continued to dominate the match, but could not add to their tally before the half-time break.
It was more of the same in the second half and Stars doubled their lead in the 66th minute, thanks to a clinical 18-yard finish from Siphelele Mthembu, 2-0.
Stars took their foot off the pedal after that and cruised to a rather comfortable win.
Baroka were poor on the day and offered very little in attack.
