Rodney Ramagalela's second-half penalty saw Polokwane City claim a 1-0 win over Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
It proved to be a cagey affair in the opening 20 minutes of the first half as neither side showed any real attacking intent.
In the 32nd minute, the Chilli Boys nearly took the lead but Polokwane goalkeeper George Chigova produced a fine save to deny James Okwuosa from close range.
Six minutes later, the hosts were then dealt a blow when Abel Mabaso was forced off with an injury. He was replaced by Kurt Lentjies.
Chippa did go close to breaking the deadlock on the stroke of halftime as but Chigova came out tops again to deny Mndlinzo as the sides went into the break goalless.
10 minutes into the second half, Chippa had another opportunity but Katlego Mashego skied his effort after being picked out by Lentjies.
With the hosts struggling to carve out chances, Teboho Moloi introduced Samuel Julies for Mashego in the 68th minute.
Both sides struggled to carve out clear-cut chances in the second half and they were both restricted to efforts from distance.
However, Rise and Shine were awarded a penalty when Ramagalela was brought down by Okwuosa. The striker stepped up and slotted home to the penalty in the 86th minute.
