Absa Premiership

Result: Chippa United 1-1 SuperSport United

Date: 28 April 2018

Venue: Sisa Dukashe Stadium

SuperSport United were denied three priceless Premiership points as Thabo Rakhale's late strike earned Chippa United a 1-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Heading into the encounter, SuperSport had their survival fate in their own hands following their 3-2 win over Free State Stars last time out.

However, Kaitano Tembo's men had to make do without the services of defender Richard Boateng, who was sent off during the week.

The Chilli Boys, meanwhile, were looking to maintain their place in the top eight.

SuperSport got off the perfect start when Thabo Mnyamane rifled the ball past Daniel Akpeyi from a tight angle, 0-1.

It got better for Tembo's men after 33 minutes when they were awarded a penalty. However, Dean Furman failed to take advantage as he missed the target from 12-yards out.

Chippa did go close to pulling level before the break but Ronwen Williams produced a fine save to keep the lead intact.

The hosts carved out a number of chances in the opening stages of the second half, but they were unable to convert with Kingston Nkhatha and Teboho Mokoena failing to take advantage.

Akpeyi came to Chippa's rescue in the 67th minute as the Nigerian shot-stopper pulled off a fine save to keep out Nkhatha's glancing header.

Defender Siyabonga Nhlapo was introduced for the final 10 minutes of the encounter, with Thuso Phala making way.

However, the Chilli Boys secured a point with one minute remaining, courtesy of a strike from Rakhale, with the result leaving SuperSport just two points clear of the relegation zone heading into the final round of league fixtures on May 12.
