Stellies Hold Chippa In Top Flight Debut

Absa Premiership
Result: Chippa United 0-0 Stellenbosch
Date: 03 August 2019
Venue: Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium
Newly promoted Stellenbosch FC registered a point in their debut Absa Premiership clash after holding Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
The NFD champions paraded a number of new signings which included Morgan Gould, Mark Van Heerden, Diego Franco Mares, Boy de Jong and Kristopher Bergman.
The Chilli Boys had a few new faces of their own as Patrick Tignyemb, Diamond Thopola, Meschack Maphangule and Kevin and Elvis Moyo were handed starts.
Clinton Larsen's men enjoyed most of the possession in the opening stanza, but found it tough to carve out chances at the Stellenbosch goal, while the visitors barely had a sniff at goal at the other end.
The home side should have been ahead shortly after the break through Rhulani Manzini, who headed wide of the goal from six-yards out.
With both sides struggling to find the opening goal, changes were introduced as Stellies threw on Waseem Isaacs for Afoakwa Dickson while Maphangule made way for Xolani Mahola as Chippa's change after the hour mark.
Chippa upped the tempo in the latter stages of the half and went close to scoring on 80 minutes but Manzini's effort was cleared off the line by Sibusiso Mthethwa.
Unfortunately, neither side could find a a clear-cut opening in the closing stages as Stellies collect a point in their top flight debut.
