Super Sub Rescues A Point For Dikwena In Six-Goal Thriller
Absa Premiership Report: Chippa United v Platinum Stars, 4 February 2018
Full Time: Chippa United 3-3 Platinum Stars
Date: 4 February 2018
Venue: Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium
Six minutes after coming on, substitute Gerald Phiri Junior scored in the 88th minute to rescue a point for Platinum Stars after a six-goal thriller against Chippa United ended 3-3 in an Absa Premiership match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The game got off to a lively start with both teams pushing forward in attack, but both teams passing and decision making in the final third was poor which resulted in few chances on goal.
Nonetheless, the home side persisted and were rewarded for their efforts with the opening goal in the 25th minute when Mark Mayambela headed home a cross from Fares Hachi, 1-0.
Chippa nearly doubled their lead on the half hour mark when Mxolisi Macuphu unleashed a powerful 20-yard shot, but Stars keeper Mbongeni Mzimela was on hand to make a superb fingertip save.
Ten minutes later Stars found an equaliser, very much against the run of play, when Riyaad Norodien unleashed a well-placed shot from the edge of the box that found the bottom corner, 1-1.
The teams entered the half time tunnel all-square.
The second half started a little slow with both teams struggling to find their rhythm.
Chippa, though, took the ascendancy on the hour mark when Mayambela found the back of the net for a second time with a quickly taken free-kick that left the Stars players protesting, 2-1.
Ten minutes later Stars nearly pulled level when Norodien fired a ferocious 24-yard free-kick towards goal, but Chippa keeper Daniel Akpeyi made a great save to deny him.
Norodien was not to be denied in the 75th minute when he fired a 20-yard thunderbolt into the back of the net to level matters for the second time, 2-2.
Chippa took the lead for a third time in the 84th minute when Andile Mbenyane showed great control to drive into the box and shoot beyond the keeper, 3-2.
Stars, though, were not to be outdone and found an equaliser for the third time two minutes before full time when Gerald Phiri Junior found the back of the net with a magical 24-yard free-kick, 3-3.
