Date: 14 August 2019
Venue: Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium
A late, late goal from Chippa United saw them earn a share of the spoils after holding Mamelodi Sundowns to a 1-1 draw in the Absa Premiership on Wednesday night.
Sundowns had the first attempt on goal in the second minute with captain Hlomphp Kekana firing from long range, but his effort sailed just wide of the target.
The Brazilians continued to push forward and Themba Zwane tried his luck from 30-yards out in the 17th minute, but he too shot wide of goal.
Chippa mounted their first attack on goal ten minutes later when Thabo Rakhale drove into the box from the right, but he saw his 14-yard shot from an acute angle well-saved by the Sundowns keeper.
Just after the half hour mark Sibusiso Vilakazi came within a whisker of scoring when his 22-yard thunderbolt shaved the wrong side of the Chippa goalpost.
In the 35th minute Sundowns did take the lead after a goalmouth scramble inside the Chippa box saw the ball finds its way to Lebohang Maboe, in space 12-yards out on the right side of the box, and he duly fired home, 1-0.
The Brazilians controlled the remained of the half, but failed to add to their tally before the break.
Sundowns continued where they left off with Zwane coming close to doubling their lead five minutes into the second half when he met a corner-kick, but his ten-yard header was superbly saved.
Chippa almost drew level in the 56th minute when a well-worked set-piece ended with Rhulani Manzini heading goalwards from eight-yards out, but Denis Onyango made a fantastic acrobatic save.
On the hour mark Vilakazi should have put the result beyond doubt when he broke through on goal, but with just the keeper to beat he blasted over from ten-yards out.
Chippa threw players forward in the last half hour and were rewarded for their efforts in the final minute of regular time – a goalmouth scramble inside the Sundowns box saw the ball fall to an unmarked Meshack Maphangule and he let loose with a powerful 14-yard effort which deflect off Motjeka Madisha on its way into the net, 1-1.
