Wasteful Downs Stumble At Chippa

Mamelodi Sundowns played to a 0-0 draw against Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

It was the host who saw the first chance at goal as Abel Mabaso struck the woodwork from an effort from just inside the box after nine minutes.

Chances few and far between in the first half, with both teams having their shots blocked just before shooting for goal.

In the 35th minute, Sibusiso Vilakazi put Percy Tau through on goal, but goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi rushed off his line to thwart the Sundowns attacker.

The first half ended with both teams tied at 0-0.

Pitso Mosimane's charges continued to dominate possession upon resumption of the second half, but they had luck of creating chances in the final third.

In the 68th minute, Chippa fashioned their own opportunity through Paseka Mako who as through on goal, but the winger pushed his effort wide of the upright.

The Chilli Boys were unfortunate to lose Daniel Akpeyi, after a long injury treatment on the field. The Nigerian goalkeeper was substituted in the 61st minute and repalced by Brighton Mhlongo.

Mosimane introduced Themba Zwane and Anthony Laffor in the final 15 minutes as Sundowns pushed for a the winning goal.

However, the game went on to a disappointing draw as neither team managed to create a clear cut chance in the closing stages of the half.
