Result: Chippa United 1-0 Free State Stars
Date: 17 March 2018
Venue: Sisa Dukashe Stadium
Chippa United ended a seven-game winless run in the Absa Premiership with a 1-0 victory over high-flying Free State Stars on Saturday afternoon.
Thabo Rakhale had the first real chance for United in the 12th minute after carving out space on the right side of the box but his effort could not find the target.
The Chilli Boys dominated possession in the first quarter of the half, although they were let down by their decision-making in the final third.
Stars, meanwhile, were mainly playing on the counter as the hosts enjoyed most of the possession, but both goalkeepers were largely untested.
As a result, the sides went into half-time break scoreless.
Two minutes into the second half, Abel Mabaso broke the deadlock for the Chilli Boys as he fired home a low effort from close range, 1-0.
Linda Mntambo almost got the second goal for Chippa four minutes before the hour with a half-volley from just outside the box, but his effort sailed over the bar.
Stars tried to stretch Vladislav Heric’s charges by attacking on the counter but the hosts defended well, despite playing a high line.
However, Eymael's charges pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages but Chippa remained resolute and held on for the vital win.
Stars miss the chance to reclaim third spot, while Ea Lla Koto eased their relegation fears.
