Ajax Net Late To Deny Chippa Three Points

Absa Premiership

Result: Chippa United 1-1 Ajax Cape Town

Date: 15 April 2018

Venue: Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium

Yannick Zakri struck in second-half stoppage time to earn Ajax Cape Town a point as they drew 1-1 with Chippa United in the Absa Premiership on Sunday afternoon.

It was a cagey affair in the opening stages as both sides struggled to carve out clear-cut chances in the opening 15 minutes.

The game's first chance arrived after 31 minutes when Yannick Zakri skipped past James Okwuosa but Paseka Mako produced a fine challenge to deny the Ivorian a sight at goal from in the box.

The Urban Warriors managed to carve out another chance just before the break as Kabwe and Fagrie Lakay combined to set up Zakri, who sent his effort wide of the mark.

It proved to be a quiet opening 45 minutes for Ajax shot-stopper Jody February as the sides went into the break scoreless.

Chippa didn't look threatening in the first stanza but they nevertheless took the lead on 53 minutes close-range close range strike from Mxolisi Macuphu.

Muhsin Ertugral responded by introducing Tashreeq Morris for Isaac Nlhapo just before the hour mark.

The Urban Warrirors went close to leveling matters on 67 minutes when Morris teed up Morne Nel, whose shot from the edge of the box sailed just over the crossbar.

Former Chippa forward Samuel Julies  was introduced for the final 15 minutes of the half as Ajax pushed for an equaliser.

The vital goal finally arrived for Ajax on 90 minutes as Zakri slotted home to claim his second goal in as many games for the Urban Warriors to leave them one point from safety with three games remaining.
