Chippa Sink City To Move Out Of Relegation Zone

Absa Premiership

Result: Cape Town City 0-1 Chippa United

Date: 07 December 2019

Venue: Cape Town Stadium

Chippa United extended their unbeaten run to four matches in the Absa Premiership with a 1-0 triumph away to struggling Cape Town City.

City were without their leading scorer Kermit Erasmus after the injury he picked up in the goalless draw with Highlands Park, as Riyaad Norodien was handed a start upfront.

Despite Erasmus' absence, the Citizens looked very lively in the early stages as Norodien and Mark Mayambela managed to force Chippa goalkeeper Veli Mothwa into a couple good saves in the opening 20 minutes.

However, it was Chippa who broke the deadlock on 22 minutes as Nigerian forward Augustine Kwem showed good composure to turn and shoot from around 10-yards out for his second league goal.

Chippa went from strength to strength after the early goal and had a couple more chances to double their tally, with Silas Maziya going closest by rattling the crossbar just before the halftime break.

City coach Jan Olde Riekerink made a double change at the start of the second half as Chris David and Fagrie Lakay replaced Bradley Ralani and Norodien.

The hosts went close to pulling level just after the hour mark but Mayambela's glancing header was deflected out for a corner by Damons.

The Citizens threw everything forward in search of an equaliser and they went close with eight minutes remaining when David's curling effort was turned away by Mothwa.

In the end, the Chilli Boys were able to see out the remaining stages to claim their third win in four games, which moves the side out of the relegation zone.

Here's how they lined up:
