Cape Town City claimed the spoils in the Cape Derby, as they recorded a 1-0 win over Ajax Cape Town on Friday evening.
 
 
There was a lively tempo to the opening 10 minutes, with both sides showing their attacking intent early on.
 
City broke the deadlock after 20 minutes as Thato Mokeke's ball found Judas Moseamedi, who headed into the path of Jayiya to side-foot home from six-yards out.
 
The Urban Warriors did have the ball in the back of the net after 30 minutes, but Toriq Losper's strike was ruled for a foul in the build-up.
 
Eric Tinkler's charges had most of the ball in the opening 45 minutes and they should have doubled their lead on stroke of halftime, but Aubrey Ngoma failed to beat Brandon Petersen from close range, after a fine run.
 
Ajax opted for a change after 53 minutes, as Roger De Sa introduced Mark Mayambela for Losper as they went in search of the equaliser.
 
City still shaded the possession statistics in the second half and were unlucky not to have doubled their lead after 62 minutes when Ngoma's header struck the upright.
 
Ajax were dealt a double blow in the space of five minutes, as both Mosa Lebusa and Rivaldo Coetzee were forced off with injury.
 
The Urban Warriors squandered a glorious chance to level matters in the 83rd minute, as Erick Chipeta headed wide of an open goal from six-yards out.
 
Ajax pushed for a winner in the closing stages, but City managed to see off a late surge and claimed the three points.
