Date: 23 August 2016
Venue: Cape Town Stadium
Cape Town City celebrated their maiden Absa Premiership clash with a 2-0 victory over Polokwane City on Tuesday.
Both sides made a slow start to the clash with chances few and far between. Lehlohonolo Majoro had one of the rare openings but glanced a header into the side netting.
Polokwane had a decent opportunity in the 20th minute but
Sibusiso Mbonani sent his effort over the bar.
Puleng Tlolane then came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock for the visitors on the half-hour mark but his curling shot found the bar instead.
The opener arrived on the stroke of half-time thanks to Bongolethu Jayiya who hammered the ball into the top corner to give Cape Town City the lead.
Rise and Shine started the second half positively, but conceded the second goal in the 69th minute as Aubrey Ngoma produced a tidy finish for the hosts.
Polokwane introduced Essau Kanyenda and Randy Ngobe for Diala Manaka and Rendani Ndou respectively for the final 20 minutes, as the visitors went in search on equaliser.
The chances dried up after the home team's second of the night, and they were able to keep Polokwane at bay and claim their first win in the Absa Premiership.
