SuperSport Deny Celtic Top Spot

Absa Premiership

Result: Bloemfontein Celtic 0-0 SuperSport United

Date: 28 November 2018

Venue: Dr Molemela Stadium

Bloemfontein Celtic were denied the chance to move top of the Absa Premiership after drawing 0-0 with SuperSport United on Wednesday evening.

Siwelele took the initiative to attack in the early stages, while United were content sitting back and looking for chances on the overlaps.

Menzi Masuku almost grabbed the lead for Phunya Sele Sele in the 18th minute with a thunderous strike that was brilliantly saved by Matsatsantsa goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.

Steve Komphela’s charges had the game by the scruff of the neck but were constantly denied by Williams, while Kaitano Tembo’s troops were throwing caution to the wind.

Williams was still crucial for United not going behind in the match as he produced a number of fine saves to keep the visitors in the contest heading into the halftime break.

Tshegofatso Mabasa, who was the hero against Bidvest Wits, had a golden opportunity to break the deadlock for Celtic ten minutes into the second stanza after going through on goal, but he scuffed his effort wide.

Kabelo Dlamini came close to finding the breakthrough for the hosts two minutes before the hour with a strike from outside the box that was parried over the bar by on-form Williams.

The match was opening up in the final 20 minutes, with end-to-end attacks in the contest, as Phumlani Ntshangase nearly snatched the lead for United 11 minutes before time with a stinging strike from outside the box, but Celtic goalkeeper Patrick Tignyemb produced a superb save.

The two sides went in search of a winning goal but they were unable to carve out a late winner and had to settle for a share of the spoils.
