Celtic & Chippa Share The Spoils
Absa Premiership Report: Bloemfontein Celtic v Chippa United 24 April 2018
Result: Bloemfontein Celtic 0-0 Chippa United
Date: 24 April 2018
Venue: Dr Molemela Stadium
Bloemfontein Celtic and Chippa United played to a 0-0 draw in their Absa Premiership match at the Dr Molemela Stadium on Tuesday night.
Lantshene Phalane had a chance to give Siwelele the lead in the seventh minute with a free-kick from just outside the box but his strike sailed over the bar.
The match lacked rhythm in the opening 15 minutes, with both sides guilty of giving away possession too easily.
Lucky Baloyi almost broke the deadlock for Phunya Sele Sele in the 21st minute with a header that sailed just wide of the mark.
Six minutes before the break, Mark Mayambela cut inside from the right wing and unleashed a cracking strike that unfortunately could not hit the target.
There was not too much action going on a few minutes before halftime and the two sides went into the dressing room goalless.
Deon Hotto came close to breaking the deadlock for Veselin Jelusic’s troops eight minutes into the second stanza with a solo run that saw him get space to fire at goal inside the box but his effort went over the bar.
The match began to gain some intensity after the hour-mark, with both sides attacking with positive intent.
Victor Letsoalo nearly profited from a counter-attack 15 minutes before time for the visitors but he could not beat Chippa goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi one-on-one.
However, neither side could find another clear cut scoring opportunity in the remaining stages of the half, forcing them to settle for a share of the spoils.
