The first 10 minutes produced no clear goal scoring opportunities as both teams played cautiously.
With 23 minutes played, Kurt Lentjies had a square ball bounce in his favour just inside the box before dragging his snapshot narrowly wide as Chippa upped the tempo.
Dan Malesela opted for a substitution in the 35th minute, as he withdrew debutant Boikanyo Komane for Thamsanqa Sangweni.
Celtic eventually broke the deadlock against the run of play, as Tebogo Potsane sliced through the Chippa defence before slotting past Daniel Akpeyi,1-0.
The home team went into halftime with the one-goal advantage.
10 minutes into the second half, Celtic were awarded a penalty when Thabo Nthethe fouled Tshegofatso Mabasa, who dusted himself off to convert the spot kick, 2-0.
Victor Letswalo squandered a great one-on-one chance as he meekly chipped the ball straight to Akpeyi in the 73rd minute.
Ten minutes later, Lentjies’s cross-cum-shot was superbly tipped over by Patrick Tignyemb as the Chilli Boys looked to reduce the deficit.
In the end, Komphela’s men claimed all three points in their first league game of the season.
