CT City's Title Challenge Takes A Dent
Absa Premiership Report: Bloemfontein Celtic v Cape Town City, 28 January 2018
Result: Bloemfontein Celtic 1-1 Cape Town City
Date: 28 January 2018
Venue: Dr Molemela Stadium
Cape Town City were held to a 1-1 draw by Bloemfontein Celtic in an Absa Premiership match at the Dr Molemela Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
City started well and had a shot on goal as early as the fourth minute, but Ayanda Patosi saw his 18-yard stinger go just wide of the post.
The visitors came close to scoring again in the 32nd minute when Roland Putsche met an accurate cross into the box, but his header shaved the wrong side of the woodwork.
City continued to push forward and were rewarded for their efforts five minutes before the break when Mbhazima Rikhotso turned the ball into his own net after a brilliant run from Thabo Nodada which forced the mistake.
It was 1-0 at half time to Cape Town City.
Celtic came out with renewed vigour in the second half, but their passing in the final third continued to let them down.
Nonetheless the home side persisted and found the equaliser in the 75th minute when Ndumiso Mabena found the back of the net with a well-placed free-kick, 1-1.
Neither side were too adventurous in the final third in the last 15 minutes of the match as they settled for a share of the spoils.
