Celtic Jump Above Stars

Absa Premiership

Full Time: Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 Platinum Stars

Date: 6 April 2014

Venue: Kaizer Sebothela Stadium

A slender 1-0 win for Bloemfontein Celtic over Platinum Stars in an Absa Premiership match at the Kaizer Sebothela Stadium on Sunday afternoon saw the Phunya Sele Sele jump above their rivals on the league table.

A single goal from Joel Mogorosi handed Celtic the three points that sees them up to eighth place on the league table with 36 points, one point above ninth placed Stars.

The first 45 minutes produced very little in terms of goalmouth action as both sides lacked imagination in attack.

Instead, it was half cluttered with poor passing and bad decision making in the final third of the field.

We had to wait almost 20 minutes before our first shot on goal as Musa Nyatama fired a 25-yard effort over the Platinum Stars crossbar.

In the 28th minute Stars had their first attempt on goal when Issa Sarr rose highest to meet a corner-kick, but he headed his effort inches wide of the post from eight-yards out.

Two minutes before the break Alfred Ndengane almost scored an own goal when he attempted to clear a left-wing cross, but only succeeded in turning the ball goalwards. Luckily for the Celtic man his keeper was alert to the danger and made a fantastic stop.

The start of the second half continued in the same vein as both sides squandered possession with some sloppy play in the midfield.

Celtic, however, managed to take the lead in the 60th minute thanks to some great work down the left flank by Lerato Lamola.

The Celtic man drove down the wing and into the box before cutting the ball back to an unmarked Joel Mogorosi who made no mistake from ten-yards out, 1-0.

Tumelo Mogapi should really have put the result beyond doubt in the 71st minute when Nyatama slipped him through on goal, but failed to beat the keeper in a one-on-one situation.

Platinum Stars tried to find their way back into the match after that, but Celtic held on for the win.
