Highlands Deny Leopards Victory In Limpopo

Absa Premiership

Result: Black Leopards 0-0 Highlands Park

Date: 24 February 2019

Venue: Thohoyandou Stadium

Highlands Park were unable punish ten-man Black Leopards as the sides played to a goalless draw in the Absa Premiership on Sunday afternoon.
Lidoda Duvha made four changes from their Nedbank Cup loss to Bidvest Wits on Monday, as goalkeeper King Ndlovu, Pentjie Zulu, Tshwarelo Bereng and Khuliso Mudau returned to the line-up.
Peter Shalulile came close to grabbing the lead for the Lions of the North twice in the first five minutes of the game but was denied by Ndlovu on both occasions, while Lifa Hlongwane had the best chance for Leopards in the 12th minute with a low shot that was smothered by Marlon Heugh at the near post.
Hlongwane was unlucky not to open the scoring for Dylan Kerr’s charges seven minutes before the break as his curling strike from outside the box crashed against the upright with Heugh well beaten.
The woodwork came Highlands' rescue shortly after the break when Hlongwane ratted the frame of the goal as the host upped the intensity in search of an opening.
After the hour, Leopards were reduced to ten men Mudau received his second yellow card five minutes after getting a first caution, the second for a dive inside the box.
Mokete Mogaila had a glorious chance to capitalise on the extra space for Highlands in the 68th minute after breaking away to go one on one with Ndlovu, but the youngster shot straight at the Leopards shot-stopper.
The visitors were forced to make a change 12 minutes before time as Sello Motsepe succumbed to injury and he was replaced by Denzil Haoseb.
Owen Da Gama’s men had the momentum in the closing stages of the match, but they were unable to make the dominance count as the two sides settled for a share of the spoils.
