Full Time: Black Aces 0-2 Platinum Stars
Date: 20 August 2014
Venue: Mbombela Stadium
First half goals from Vuyo Mere and Ndumiso Mabena handed Platinum Stars a 2-0 win over Black Aces in an Absa Premiership match at Mbombela stadium on Wednesday night.
It was a good start to the game for Dikwena who applied pressure early on and were rewarded with a penalty in the 15th minute after the referee adjudged Roger De Costa to have handled the ball inside the box.
Captain Vuyo Mere stepped up and made no mistake from the spot to give his side the lead, 1-0.
Eight minutes later some sloppy defending by Energy Murambadoro allowed Stars to double their lead.
An initial 24-yard shot from Robert Ng’ambi was saved by the keeper, but instead of pushing the ball around the post he palmed it into the path of Ndumiso Mabena who tapped home from close range.
Aces tried to find their way back into the match, but were unable to do so before the break.
The second half was very disjointed with both sides struggling to keep hold of the ball for sustained periods of play.
Consequently, chances on goal were few and far between until the final ten minutes when Aces laid siege on the Stars goal.
Tendai Ndoro came closest to pulling a goal back in the 85th minute, but his long range effort was well-saved by the keeper.
The loss means Aces are still without a win in the league while Stars picked up their second three points.
