Absa Premiership Report: Baroka v SuperSport United, 17 December 2017
Result: Baroka 3-1 SuperSport United
Date: 17 December 2017
Venue: Peter Mokaba Stadium
Baroka got back to winning ways in the Absa Premiership, after beating SuperSport United 3-1 in a league match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
SuperSport started the better of the two sides and controlled the flow of play, but their decision making in the final third was poor.
The first real scoring chance fell to SuperSport in the tenth minute, when Thuso Phala found himself in space on the edge of the box, but he fired winches wide of the target.
On the half hour mark Baroka took the lead, very much against the run of play, when Lucky Nguzana met a low cross from the left and turned the ball home from 12-yards out after superb first touch to control the ball, 1-0.
In the 38th minute Phala should really have scored when a loose ball fell to him inside the box, but he headed over the target from close range with just the keeper to beat.
In the dying seconds of the half Bradley Grobler came within inches of levelling matters for the Tshwane side, when he met a pass from the left with a ferocious eight-yard volley which struck the crossbar.
SuperSport came out firing in the second half and found an equaliser eight minutes, after the restart when Azubuike Egwuekwe headed home a Phala corner-kick, 1-1.
SuperSport’s joy, though, was short-lived when Letladi Madubanya restored Baroka’s lead in the 72nd after a clinical finish, 2-1.
Baroka confirmed the victory in the dying seconds of the match, when Mduduzi Mdatsane found the back of the net to make it 3-1.
