Winless Chiefs Drop Points At Impressive Baroka

Absa Premiership

Result: Baroka FC 1-1 Kaizer Chiefs

Date: 14 August 2018

Venue: Peter Mokaba Stadium

Kaizer Chiefs' winless start to the Absa Premiership continued after they could only manage to secure a point at Baroka FC on Tuesday evening.

Amakhosi were dominating possession in the early stages with midfielder Siphelele Ntshangase looking to setup Khama Billiat and Leonardo Castro upfront.

However, Bakgaga came the closest to grabbing the lead in the 12th minute as Mduduzi Mdantsane curled a left-footed strike from just outside the box that missed slightly wide.

Wedson Nyirenda’s charges took the lead in the 36th minute through an own goal by Daniel Cardoso after a lack of communication that led to the defender heading the ball over the on-rushing Itumeleng Khune.

Leonardo Castro should have equalised for the Glamour Boys two minutes later with a chance at close range, but his outstretched strike missed narrowly wide.

Siphiwe Tshabalala equalised for the visitors a minute before the break with a brilliant free-kick that sneaked in at the near post.

Mpho Kgaswane almost gave Bakgaga the lead two minutes into the second stanza with left-footed strike that crashed against the upright with Khune well beaten.

Ranga Chivaviro had a glorious chance to give the hosts the lead in the 63rd minute after being gifted acres of space inside the box but his side-footed strike took a deflection off Cardoso and sailed wide.

The hosts continued to threaten as Collins Makgaka almost made it 2-1 in the 74th minute with a long range strike that was threatening but shaved the top of the crossbar.

Amakhosi were getting frustrated as they pushed forward and they were often let down by their decision-making in the final third.

Bakgaga had chances to steal the match deep in stoppage time, but they were unable to capitlise as the spoils were shared on the night.
