Baroka FC picked up their first win in  in the 2018/19 Absa Premiership season after beating Cape Town City 2-1 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday night.

Baroka started like a house on fire and opened the scoring as early as the sixth minute when Mpho Kgaswane found the back of the net with a clinical finish, 1-0.

After taking the lead the home side kept their foot on the pedal and doubled their lead in the 20th minute thanks to a strike from Matome Kgoetyane, 2-0.

City tried to find their way back into the game and came close to pulling a goal back in the 35th minute, but Taariq Fielies saw his 20-yard shot skim the wrong side of the post.

The Cape Town Side continued to push forward, but were unable to find a goal and entered the half time break trailing by two goals.

City made a change at the start of the second half with Siphelele Mthembu replacing Mpho Matsi and the striker made an immediate impact after pulling a goal back in the 49th minute, 2-1.

Bonginkosi Makume almost restored Baroka’s two goal lead on the hour mark, but his effort from the edge of the box shaved the wrong side of the upright.

The home team kept up the pressure with a shot in the 70th minute courtesy of Mduduzi Mdatsane, but the City keeper made a fine save to deny him.

City threw players forward in the final 20 minutes, but they were unable to find an equaliser as Baroka held on for the win.

Dissapointed with Benni boys but congrats to Baroka they played well an winning home games is vital
