Clinton Larsen's charges dominated in the opening exchanges of the first half, but they struggled to break down the visitors' defence.

Ovidy Karuru managed to carve out Usuthu's first real opening in the 17th minute, as forced Nkosingiphile Gumede into a good save from distance.

Siyabonga Mbatha was called into action 10 minutes later, as the AmaZulu shot-stopper produced a fine save to deny the visits an opener.

That proved to be the final chance at goal in the half, as the sides went into the break scoreless.

However, Arrow broke the deadlock six minutes into the second half, as Knox Mutizwa got beyond the defence to slot past Mbatha, 0-1.

Usuthu leveled matters in the 59th minute, when Siyethemba Mnguni turned home Sbusiso Mabiliso's low cross.

The hosts then took the lead five minutes later, as Mnguni bagged his second goal with a thumping strike into the far corner on the edge of the box, 2-1.

With 15 minutes remaining, Arrows were reduced to 10 men when Danny Venter, got given marching orders for a late challenge on Mabiliso.

AmaZulu had a man sent off in the 81st minute, when Michael Morton was shown a red card for dangerous tackle.

Despite the late drama, 2-1 was how the score remained as Usuthu claimed the spoils in the KZN derby.
