Absa Premiership

Result: AmaZulu 1-0 Cape Town City

Date:  12 May 2018

Venue: King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium

AmaZulu secured a top-eight spot in the Absa Premiership after beating Cape Town City 1-0 at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium on the final day of the season.

The Citizens were looking to end their campaign with another win after defeating Orlando Pirates in their last clash, although they took to the field without the suspended Robyn Johannes.

Usuthu, meanwhile, were looking to get revenge over the Citizens, who defeated them 1-0 in the reverse fixture earlier this season.

The men from Cape Town looked lively in the first half, with Surprise Ralani causing a number of problems for the defence, although he failed to convert his chances.

Matthew Rusike nearly put the visitors ahead with two minutes remaining in the half, but he failed to hit the target as the sides went into the break goalless.

After a quiet start to the second period, Usuthu broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute as Mbongeni Gumede turned home Jabulani Ncobeni's free-kick.

Cavin Johnson responded with two changes after 70 minutes as Michael Morton replaced Butholezwe Ncube, while Sphesihle Maduna came on for Siyabonga Nomvethe.

Benni McCarthy's men threw numbers forward in search of an equaliser, but Usuthu held on for three points.

Here's how they lined up:

AmaZulu: 28. Mbatha, 29. Mabiliso, 24. Sikhakhane, 25. M. Gumede, 17. P. Gumede, 6. Ncube, 14. Mnguni, 2.Nomvethe, 32. Lumkwana, 23. Karuru, 9. Cele.
