Full Time: AmaZulu 0-2 Celtic
Date: 27 August 2014
Venue: Moses Mabhida Stadium
Goals from Lerato Lamola and Frank Mhango saw Bloemfontein Celtic earn their first win in the Absa Premiership as they beat AmaZulu 2-0 at the Moses Mabhida stadium on Wednesday night.
Two mistakes by Usuthu in the first 45 minutes saw them trailing by two goals at half time.
Celtic dominated the early exchanges and found their reward in the 17th minute after an error in defence by AmaZulu allowed Lerato Lamola through on goal and he proceeded to round the keeper before slotting home, 1-0.
Ten minutes later Celtic doubled their lead when another poor pass saw Frank Mhango steal the ball on the left flank before driving into the box and superbly firing beyond Tapuwa Kapini, 2-0.
AmaZulu tried to find their way back into the match, but were unable to breach the Phunya Sele Sele defence before the break.
Celtic led 2-0 at half time.
AmaZulu offered very little in terms of attack in the second 45 as the Phunya Sele Sele took their foot off the gas and controlled the flow of the game.
One of the best chances of the half fell to Joel Mogorosi in the 66th minute, but he skewed his shot wide from just inside the box.
AmaZulu’s best chance at a consolation goal came a minute before full time when Bornwell Mwape met a Ruzaigh Gamildien cross, but his diving header skimmed the wrong side of the woodwork.
The win is Celtic's first of the season, as AmaZulu remain winless in the league.
