It was the visitors who got off to a good start, as Rhulani Manzini got on the end of an early AmaZulu corner in the 7th minute, but the forward’s effort just went over the crossbar.

Thabo Mosadi played in a cross that evaded everyone in the box, until it reached Roscoe Pietersen as the back post, but the defender’s effort just brushed the side-netting in the 18th minute.

On the stroke of halftime, Phohlongo teed up Pietersen whose powerful shot went just over the bar, with both teams going into the break having no luck in front of goal.

AmaZulu came back from the break firing and Sduduzo Dlamini had an effort at goal saved by an alert Jody February in the 50th minute.

Two minutes later, it was an Ajax youngster who broke the deadlock when Masilakhe Phohlongo’s effort found the back of the net to give the hosts the lead.

Ajax were in the mood, as Phohlongo laid the ball for an on-rushing Tashreeq Morris whos shot cannoned off the woodwork to save AmaZulu’s blushes.

Great interplay by Ajax saw Morris through on goal, with the forward finishing off from close range to make it 2-0 to the home side after 57 minutes.

Mhlengi Cele pulled on back for AmaZulu in the 90th minute, to bring about a nervy end to the game.

Former Ajax player Mabhuti Khenyeza, struck late in stoppage to equalise for AmaZulu, with the late equaliser being the last bit of action as the teams played out a 2-2 draw.
