Polokwane City

George Chigova: 8

Chigova had a great game on his debut between the sticks for Polokwane. He had a relatively quiet first half, but was kept busy in the second 45. He made a great save in the 70th minute, low and to his left, to turn an 18-yard shot from Erasmus around the post. He made another great save in the 76th minute to deny Makola from 16-yards out.

Gert Barends: 6

He had a relatively quiet game in his right-back position. He did his job in defence, but could have got forward more in attack. Still he did keep the likes of Matlaba at bay.

Sibusiso Mbonani: 7

He had a solid game in the centre of defence and kept the Pirates attack at bay with his well-timed tackling and reading of the game.

Carlington Nyadombo: 7

He had a good game and kept the Pirates attack at bay. He led by example with hard tackling and high work ethic.

Punch Masenamela: 6

He had a relatively quiet game in his left-back position. He did his job in defence, but could have got forward more in attack. He did do well to keep the likes of Myeni and Makola at bay.

Jabulani Maluleke: 7

He had a good game in his attacking midfield role. He was a threat in attack and also did his job defensively in midfield. He had an 18-yard shot on goal in the fifth minute which was well-saved by the keeper. He had another shot on goal in the 25th minute, but again saw his shot from the edge of the box saved by the keeper.

Jabulani Nene: 6

He had a solid game in the centre of midfield. He did not do anything out of the ordinary, but worked hard and kept the Pirates midfield attack at bay.

Nazier Jacobs: 7

He was constant menace in attack and work hard in his midfield role. He had a long range shot on goal in the 16th minute, but saw his effort saved by the keeper. He was shown a yellow card in the 22nd minute. He tired in the second half and was not in the game as much.

Cole Alexander: 6

He had moments of brilliance where he looked lively in his attacking midfield role, but he also gave the ball away cheaply with some poor passing.

Baptiste Faye: 6

He was a good target man up front, but saw very little of the ball. He did work hard off the ball which allowed his teammates to find space. He squandered a great scoring chance in the 72nd minute when the ball was cleared to him by the Pirates keeper, but he shot over with the foal at his mercy. He was substituted in the 74th minute.

Muzikayifani Ngidi: 6

He looked lively at times in attack. He showed good control when on the ball, but struggled with the pace of the game. He volleyed just over the Pirates goal from 18-yards out in the 11th minute. He looked tired at the start of the second half and was substituted in the 56th minute.

Substitutes

Puleng Tlolane: 7

He came on as a substitute in the 56th minute. He was a real threat in attack when coming on, but his finishing in front of goal needs to improving. He drove into the box from the right in the 88th minute, but fired wide from 14-yards out. Almost stole the win in the final seconds of the match when he saw his 14-yard shot superbly saved by the Pirates keeper.

Thobani Mncwango: 6

He came on in the 74th minute, but did not have much of an impact on the game. He did what was required of him

Orlando Pirates

Felix Ovono: 7

He had a quite a good game, but at times he made some poor errors. Still he was solid between the posts for the most part and made some critical saves. He made a good save to deny Maluleke an 18-yard shot in the fifth minute. He made another good save in the 16th minute to deny Jacobs from long range. He denied Maluleke from distance once again in the 25th minute. He almost gifted Polokwane a goal in the 72nd minute when he cleared the ball straight to Faye, but he shot over with the goal at his mercy. He made a spectacular save in the dying seconds of the match to deny Tlolane from 14-yards out.

Happy Jele: 6

He had a decent game in his right-back role. He defended well and also got forward in attack on the odd occasion. His final pass or cross was not always his best. He produced a great through ball for Erasmus in the 63rd minute which led to the striker scoring, but the goal was disallowed due to off-sides.

Rooi Mahamutsa: 6

He had a solid game in the centre of defence. He did what was required of him and nothing more.

Edward Gyimah: 7

He was good in his centre back role. He worked hard off the ball and made some well-timed tackles to break up Polokwane attacks.

Thabo Matlaba: 6

He had a quiet game by his standards. He defended well, but did not get forward that much in attack, although he did have a shot on goal. He had Pirates’ first shot on goal in the 43rd minute which went over the target from 30-yards out.

Mpho Makola: 6

He blew hot and cold. At times he looked really threatening, but on other occasions he could not be found. His finishing was also not at its best. He had a 16-yard shot in the 76th minute after cutting in from the flank, but saw his effort superbly saved by the Polokwane keeper. In the 92nd minute he had a great chance to win the game, but fired over the target from just inside the box under no pressure.

Lehlohonolo Masalesa: 6

He had a very quiet game in the midfield for Pirates. He did what was required of him, but nothing more. He was booked three minutes into the second half.

Roger Majafa: 6

It was a disappointing game for Majafa in midfield. At times he looked lively, but his passing in the final third let him down.

Sifiso Myeni: 6

It was a quiet night for Myeni who was not his usual attacking self. Masenamela had his number and kept him quiet down the right flank.

Oupa Manyisa: 6

In his first game back since injury it looked like he struggled for pace. He was not his usual creative self in attack and the night ended early for him. He left the field injured around the hour mark.

Kermit Erasmus: 7

He had a very quiet first half and saw very little of the ball. However, in the second half he came to life and had a few attempts on goal. He found the back of the net in the 63rd minute, but his goal was disallowed due to off-sides. He had an 18-yard shot in the 18th minute superbly saved by the Polokwane keeper. He was substituted in the 85th minute.

Substitutes:

Menzi Masuku: 7

He came on as a substitute in the 62nd minute and had a positive impact as he brought creativity to the team which resulted in a few scoring chances.

Thabo Rakhale: 6

He came on as a substitute in the 71st minute and did not have the impact the coach had hoped for. He was relatively quiet and saw little of the ball.

Lehlohonolo Majoro: N/A
