Player Ratings: Ajax V Chiefs

Soccer Laduma rates the individual performances of the players following the 1-1 draw between Ajax Cape Town and Kaizer Chiefs in an Absa Premiership match on Saturday, 26 September 2015.

Ajax Cape Town

Anssi Jaakkola: 8

He had a great game between the sticks and made numerous good saves. He was a little unlucky to concede the goal after his initial save from a Tshabalala shot was poked home by Manqele. He made a fantastic close range save in the 15th minute to deny Abraw. In the 25th minute he made a great save to deny Parker from a 24-yard free-kick. He made a brilliant save in the 45th minute to deny Masilela from just inside the box. He did well to stop a 16-yard shot from Lebese in the 80th minute.

Cecil Lolo: 6

He had a relatively quiet night by his standards. He did his defensive job well, but offered very little in terms of attack down the flank.

Abbubaker Mobara: 6

He had a consistent game in the centre of defence. He did his job well and for the most part kept Abraw and Manqele quiet.

Rivaldo Coetzee: 6

He had a solid game in his centre back role. He did what was required of him and made a couple of important tackles to break up the Chiefs attack.

Mosa Lebusa: 6

He was not in the game much. He did his defensive job well, but offered very little in terms of attack down the flank.

Ndiviwe Mdabuka: 6

He had a quiet game in his attacking midfield role. He was not a real threat going forward, but did what was required of him defensively.

Bantu Mzwakali: 6

He blew hot and cold on the night. At times he was nowhere to be found in the centre of midfield, but at other times he bossed the midfield battle with his creativity and skill. He was substituted in the 93rd minute.

Travis Graham: 7

He had a solid game in the centre of midfield for Ajax. He kept it tight and controlled the pace and flow of the game at times. He had Ajax’s first shot on goal in the 27th minute, but saw his long range effort go wide of the goal.

Riyaad Norodien: 7

He was a real threat in attack for Ajax with his speed and skill down the flank. He tried his luck from an acute angle on the right 25-yards out, but his shot went just over the bar. He was substituted in the 83rd minute.

Nathan Paulse: 7

He was very quiet in the first half and did not see much of the ball. In the second half he came to life and was a real threat in attack with his height and strength. He scored the equalising goal for Ajax from a corner-kick in the 70th minute.

Toriq Losper: 6

He had a really average night in attack and was not in the game much. He saw very little of the ball, but continued to work hard up front with his off-the-ball running. He was booked in the 63rd minute.

Substitutes

Erwin Isaacs: 6

He came on as a substitute in the 74th minute and did not have that much impact on the game. He did what was required of him and nothing more.

Franklin Cale: N/A

He came on as a substitute in the 83rd minute and did not have enough time to make an impact.

Grandwald Scott: N/A

He came on as a substitute in the 93rd minute and did not have enough time to make an impact.

Kaizer Chiefs

Reyaad Pieterse: 7

He had a good night between the sticks for Chiefs. He made a number of good saves and marshalled his defence well. He was not at fault for the goal as Bukenya lost his marker which allowed Paulse to head home in the 70th minute.

Siboniso Gaxa: 6

He had a relatively quiet game in his right-back role. He did his defensive duties well, but did not get forward that much in attack down the flank. He provided a good low cross from the right for Lebese in the 80th minute, but the latter’s shot was well-saved by the keeper.

Erick Mathoho: 6

He was solid in his centre-back role and did his job well with some well-timed tackles. He could have offered more in attack at set-pieces though.

Ivan Bukenya: 6

He did well after coming into the team at the centre of defence. He was consistent for the most part and contributed well to the team’s defensive performance. He was booked in the 60th minute and was also at fault for the goal when he lost Paulse at a corner-kick which resulted in the striker getting a header on goal.

Tsepo Masilela: 7

He had a good game in his left-back role. He was superb defensively and also added numbers going forward in attack. He had a 16-yard shot on goal in the 45th minute which was superbly saved by the Ajax keeper. In the first minute of the second half he had a long range shot on goal which went just over the target. He was booked in the 69th minute.

Bernard Parker: 6.5

At times Parker looked very lively and created a few scoring opportunities for his teammates. However, he also drifted out of the game a bit at times. Still, his work-rate off and on the ball was high and he had a positive impact on the game. He had a 24-yard free-kick well-saved by the Ajax keeper in the 25th minute.

Willard Katsande: 7

He had a good game in the centre of midfield for Chiefs. He controlled the midfield at times with his hard tackling and non-stop work ethic. He was a solid buffer in front of the back four in his defensive midfield role.

Reneilwe Letsholonyane: 6

He had a quiet game in his centre-midfield role. He was not as creative as normal and gave the ball away cheaply at times with some poor passing. He did track back well and never stopped working to win the ball back

Siphiwe Tshabalala: 6.5

Tshabalala had an up and down game in his attacking midfield role. He did well in regards to his defensive duties, but could have offered more in attack. It was his initial shot in the 65th minute that was saved and then led to the goal after Manqele tapped home the rebound.

Edward Manqele: 7

He was lively in attack through-out with his pace and skill causing problems for the Ajax defence. He created the first real chance on goal on the night with a superb break and cross down the right flank which saw Abraw denied by the keeper. He scored Chiefs opening goal in the 65th minute when he was quickest to react after Tshabalala shot was saved.

Camaldine Abraw: 6.5

He was lively in the first half and caused a few problems for the Ajax defence with his speed. He did well to meet a Manqele cross in the 15th minute, but was superbly denied by the Ajax keeper at close range. As the game progressed he became less and less involved though.

Substitutes

George Lebese: 7

He came on as a substitute in the 74th minute and had quite a positive impact on the game. He was a threat in attack and almost scored in the 80th minute, but saw his 16-yard shot well-saved by the Ajax keeper.

George Maluleka: N/A

He came on as a substitute in the 84th minute and did not have enough time to make an impact.

Siphelele Mthembu: N/A

He came on as a substitute in the 90th minute and did not have enough time to make an impact.
