Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane believes his side's superiority in midfield is the reason they beat Orlando Pirates 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Sundowns returned to winning ways in the Absa Premiership thanks to goals from Khama Billiat and Yannick Zakri at the Orlando Stadium.
“We played against a team that is very good in the midfield and we managed to do well in the midfield,” Mosimane said after the game.
“We had problems in the first half with long balls from Happy Jele. We had run off behind Thabo (Matlaba) and (Motjeka) Madisha, but we corrected it at half time.
“I am happy we won, but we didn’t just win, we played well today. We played very well.
“We got our chances and we finished them. Themba Zwane and Mzikayise Mashaba were unbelievable.
“Yannick Zakri was also unbelievable. We pulled him from nowhere from the grandstand in Platinum Stars to play and he scored and now he scored again. He has got the power and the speed.”
The result sees Sundowns up to second on the league table, three points behind Bidvest Wits with three matches left in the season.
Mosimane insists that all his side can do is continue to pick up results in the Absa Premiership and also focus on getting positive results in the CAF champions League.
“We continue,” add Mosimane. “We can’t worry about Wits, it’s not in our hands. If it was in our hands we could worry about them. We should just do what we have to do, even if we don’t win the league we must still win our last three games.
“Maybe we can get the Champions League spot. We can’t win everything, we just won the Champions League in December, and we just won the Super Cup now in February. If they have to win the League, let them win the league. They are fighting for it.”
