Full Time: University of Pretoria 2-1 MP Black Aces
Date: 28 February 2015
Venue: Tuks Stadium
The University of Pretoria picked up their sixth win in the Absa Premiership after beating MP Black Aces 2-1 in a league match at the Tuks Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
It was an exciting opening 45 minutes as the action swung from end to end as both teams pushed forward in attack.
The first real threat on goal came in the fourth minute when a stinging volley from Aces’ Tendai Ndoro struck the Tuks crossbar.
Ten minutes later the home side had their first shot on goal, but Geoffrey Massa fired his 25-yard free-kick inches wide of the post.
In the 18th minute Collins Mbesuma worked his way into the box after beating two Tuks defenders, but his shot from 16-yards out struck the side-netting.
Massa should have given Tuks the lead in the 21st minute when he broke through on goal, but was superbly denied in a one-on-one with Jackson Mabokgwane.
A minute later Thabo Mnyamane did open the scoring for the home side when he pounced on a loose ball in the box after a defensive mix up and slotted home with clinical precision, 1-0.
On the half hour mark Atusaye Nyondo thought he had doubled Tuks lead when he found the back of the net, but his goal was disallowed because he was in an off-sides position.
Aces pushed hard towards the end of the half and were rewarded with an equaliser in the 40th minute after a swift passing move saw Ndoro pass the ball home from ten-yards out, 1-1.
The away side started the better of the two teams in the second 45 and Abia Nale came close to scoring two minutes after the break when he dribbled his way past the defence and into the box, but his shot struck the side-netting from close range.
Tuks came back into the game after that and were unlucky not to take the lead in the 56th minute when Nyondo met a corner-kick, but his effort struck the woodwork.
The home side continued to control matters and maid their pressure tell in the 79th minute after substitute Vuyisile Ntombayithethi found the back of the net with a good strike, 2-1.
Aces spent the last ten minutes on the attack, but could not find an equaliser as Tuks walked away with the three points.
