10-Man Tuks Sneak Past Maritzburg
Result: University of Pretoria 1-0 Maritzburg United
Date: 08 March 2015
Venue: Tuks Stadium
A solitary strike from Atusaye Nyondo handed the University of Pretoria a 1-0 win over Maritzburg United on Sunday afternoon.
AmaTuks went ahead as early as the seventh minute, as Nyondo turned home a cross from three-yards out, after the Maritzburg defence went to sleep.
Nyondo had another opportunity to double the home side's lead in the 12th minute, but his curling effort was saved by Virgil Vries, after being played in by Thabo Mnyamane.
Mohammed Anas had Maritzburg's best chance of the half after in the 20th minute but his powerful effort from inside the area sailed just wide of the mark.
Tuks' were then reduced to 10 men in the 27th minute, after Vuyisile Ntombayithethi was given his marching orders after picking up his second yellow card of the day.
Maritzburg were looking to make their numerical advantage count in the second half and came close to equalising in the 53rd minute but Nhlanhla Vilakazi headed wide of the mark.
Steve Komphela brought on the likes of Terrence Mandaza and Thokozani Sekotlong in the hope of snatching an equaliser in the final 15 minutes.
And it was Sekotlong who nearly made the immediate impact, as his header from six-yards out sailed inches wide of the upright.
Washington Arubi had the final say of the game in stoppage time, as the AmaTuks shot-stopper tipped Mondli Cele's header over the crossbar, as Tuks held on for the three points.
