Result: University of Pretoria 0-1 Free State Stars
Date: 27 August 2014
Venue: Tuks Stadium
A second half goal by Robert Sankara helped Free State Stars beat the University of Pretoria 1-0 in an Absa Premiership encounter, played at Tuks Stadium on Wednesday night.
The win was the second for Ea Lla Koto, who last week came from two goals down to beat SuperSport United 3-2.
Both teams had a very slow start to the game with very few goal-scoring chances being created inside the first 15 minutes of the match.
The early stages of the match was also dominated by flying tackles which led to several free-kicks being awarded to the two sides.
Geoffrey Massa made a promising attempt at goal in the 35th minute, but Ea Lla Koto goalkeeper, Bruce Mtshali, was up to the task, and deflected the ball away for a corner kick.
Moeketsi Sekola also took a good shot from range, but Washington Arubi, parried the ball away.
The first half of the match ended without goals.
The homes side quickly made a change in the second-half, with Thabo Mosadi coming for Denver Mukamba as Steve Barker’s side searched for the opening goal.
Tom Saintfiet also introduced Thabo Moloi for Bafana Kali.
More changes were made by both camps in as they searched for the opening goal.
Sekola, who was Ea Lla Koto’s main threat every time his team was in attack, had another attempt at goal, which Arubi managed to deal with.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 75th minute with a Robert Sankara headed goal, from a well taken Tumelo Letuka’s free kick.
Ea Lla Koto held on to their lead in the last 15 minutes of the game to secure their second win of the season.
