Absa Premiership
Full Time: SuperSport United 2-5 AmaZulu
Date: 01 March 2015
Venue: Lucas Moripe Stadium
AmaZulu came from a goal behind to beat SuperSport United 5-2 in an Absa Premiership match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The win, which was only Usuthu’s second of the league season and their first in 2015, sees them up to 12 points, but still rooted at the bottom of the table.
United, on the other hand, dropped to seventh on the table with 27 points following Bloemfontein Celtic’s win over Platinum Stars also on Sunday.
SuperSport started brightly and opened the scoring in the third minute after Jeremy Brockie turned home a Dove Wome cross from close range, 1-0.
AmaZulu, though, took control of the match after that and dominated the possession stakes.
Chances on goal, however, were not in abundance because of a combination of poor decision making by AmaZulu in the final third and solid defending from United.
Still, AmaZulu persisted and they did find an equaliser in the 42nd minute when a stunning 24-yard free-kick from Marc Van Heerden found the corner of the net, 1-1.
The Durban-based side then took the lead in the dying seconds of the opening stanza when Bongi Ntuli headed home a cross from Van Heerden, 2-1.
AmaZulu confirmed their dominance in the game two minutes after the break when Bornwell Mwape found their third goal with a left foot finish after a Sadat Ouro-Akoriko cross, 3-1.
Luvolwethu Mpeta nearly pulled a goal back for the home side in the 52nd minute when his 18-yard volley struck the woodwork.
Three minutes later and Clayton Daniels did find United’s second goal after heading home a David Mathebula set-piece, 3-2.
Goodman Dlamini restored AmaZulu’s two goal cushion just before the hour mark when a swift passing move from the away side concluded with a clinical strike from just inside the box, 4-2.
Goodman Dlamini made certain of the win for AmaZulu in the 66th minute when he latched onto a through pass from Bongi Ntuli and slotted the ball beyond the keeper, 5-2.
SuperSport tried to find their way back into the game, but were unable to manage any consolation as AmaZulu picked up the three points.
