SuperSport Hand Chiefs First Defeat

Absa Premiership

Full Time: SuperSport United 2-0 Kaizer Chiefs

Date: 17 February 2015

Venue: Peter Mokaba Stadium

Goals from Jeremy Brockie and Dove Wome handed Kaizer Chiefs their first defeat in the 2014/15 Absa Premiership campaign after SuperSport beat the Amakhosi 2-0 in a league match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday night.

The first 45 was evenly contested as both teams were well organised in defence which resulted in very few chances on goal in the opening half.

SuperSport did have the first effort on goal in the fourth minute when Jeremy Brockie unleashed a thunderous 24-yard volley which sailed inches over the crossbar.

After that the Amakhosi had the majority of the possession and controlled the midfield battle with their five midfield players spread across the park.

Chiefs’ first effort on goal, however, only came in the 19th minute and it was speculative effort when Erick Mathoho met a deep left-sided free-kick to the edge of the box, but his header went wide of the target.

The Amakhosi continued to see the Lion’s share of possession, but they could not break down a stubborn SuperSport defence.

Chiefs’ only other decent chance in the half was again from a left-sided free-kick in the 40th minute which Parker delivered into the box and it was again met by Mathoho who saw his 12-yard header well-saved by the keeper.

The half ended 0-0.

SuperSport started the second half quickly and took the lead four minutes after the restart when Brockie headed home a right sided cross, 1-0.

Chiefs came bitterly close to levelling matters in the 55th minute when Tefu Mashamaite met a right-sided free-kick from Parker, but his ten-yard header skimmed the wrong side of the post.

The Amakhosi dominated possession after that, but they struggled to break down a resilient SuperSport defence.

Chiefs’ next decent scoring chance came in the 75th minute following a goalmouth scramble at a corner-kick, but Morgan Gould was denied from only a couple of yards out by a brilliant save from the keeper.

Ten minutes later Chiefs were inches away from the equaliser when Mathoho saw a long range shot well-saved by the keeper, Parker, though, was quickest to the rebound but his effort struck the crossbar from close range.

With Chiefs pushing numbers forward they left themselves exposed at the back and Dove Wome made them pay in the 91st minute when he turned home a low cross form Thuso Phala to wrap up the win, 2-0.
