Chiefs Reclaim Top Spot

Absa Premiership

Result: Platinum Stars 0-2 Kaizer Chiefs

Date: 27 August 2014

Venue: Royal Bafokeng Stadium

First half goals from Reneilwe Letsholonyane and George Lebese saw Kaizer Chiefs defeat Platinum Stars 2-0 in a Absa Premiership clash at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

It was all Chiefs from the word go, with the likes of George Maluleka and Reneilwe Letsholonyane combining well in the opening stages of the half.

However, it was the home side who created the first chance of the game inside the opening five minutes, as Itumeleng Khune was forced into a fine save by Lucky Nguzana.

It was Amakhosi who took advantage of their dominance in the 20th minute, as some great build-up play between Maluleka and Letsholonyane, saw the latter rifle one into the top corner to give Chiefs the lead.

Minutes later and Chiefs doubled their advantage, as Kingston Nkhatha's shot deflected into the path of George Lebese, who showed great composure to fire into the bottom corner.

Dikwena got stronger towards the end of half but failed to create any openings, with the ball in the final third not up to par.

Maluleka almost increased the visitors' lead in the 50th minute but the midfielder failed to beat Jackson Mabokgwane from close range.

Nguzana almost pulled one back for Stars in the 61st minute, but the striker managed to head over after being picked out by Vuyo Mere.

Lebese could have increased the lead in the 70th minute, but the winger managed to blasts his effort over the bar from eight-yards out.

Mpeta came close to reducing Chiefs' lead in the 76th minute, as he played a neat one-two with Nguzana, before firing just wide of the upright.

Chiefs pushed for third in the closing stages and were nearly rewarded in the 83rd minute, but Maluleka's effort was saved by Mabokgwane.

Stars threatened late on but could not find the back of the net, as Chiefs maintain their 100 percent record in the league.

Here's how they lined up:

Platinum Stars: Dambe, Mere, Gumede, Mpeta, Semenya, Madubanya, Mathe, Msomi, Nguzana, Mabena, Malokase

Kaizer Chiefs: Khune, Gaxa, Mashamaite, Mathoho, Masilela, Letsholonyane, Katsande, Masango, Lebese, Maluleka, Nkhatha
