Date: 28 February 2015
Venue: Orlando Stadium
Orlando Pirates continued their winning run in 2015 with a 3-1 victory over Polokwane City at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday evening.
Pirates went ahead as early as the first minute, as a swift counter attack ended up with Mpho Makola slotting home from six-yards out.
Polokwane could have hit back in the 10th minute but Puleng Tlolane could only fire into the side-netting from close range.
Pirates started dictating play after the half an hour mark, as Oupa Manyisa and Makola were looking lively in the middle of the park.
However, Pirates sprung into life five minutes before the halftime break and doubled their lead courtesy of delightful lob from Kermit Erasmus.
They managed to add a third in the 42nd minute, as Oupa Manyisa converted from the penalty spot, after Thabo Matlaba was brought down in the box.
Polokwane reduced the deficit a minute after the halftime break, as Tshepo Tema rose highest to head past Brighton Mhlongo.
Pirates could have extended their lead midway through the second half, Sifiso Myeni dribbled past two defenders but ended up firing straight at Marumo from close range.
Jabulani Maluleke should have reduced the deficit for Polokwane in the 75th minute but the skipper dragged his effort wide of the mark from close range.
Eric Tinkler brought on the likes of Thabo Rakhale and Lennox Bacela in the hope of bagging an extra goal but the score remained 3-1 at full-time.
