Absa Premiership
Full Time: Orlando Pirates 2-0 Chippa United
Date: 10 March 2015
Venue: Orlando Stadium
Two first half goals from Mpho Makola and Sifiso Myeni handed Orlando Pirates a 2-0 win over Chippa United, their first in history, in an Absa Premiership match at the Orlando Stadium on Tuesday night.
It was an action packed start to the game with the Buccaneers opening the lead in the sixth minute after a right wing cross from Sifiso Myeni was expertly headed home by Mpho Makola, 1-0.
Three minutes later another swift passing movement from Pirates saw Thandani Ntshumayelo with a clever back-heel to put Oupa Manyisa in space 14-yards out, but his powerful shot was superbly saved by the keeper.
Chippa’s first real opening came in the tenth minute when James Okwousa met an inch perfect corner-kick, but his eight-yard header was magnificently saved by Brighton Mhlongo.
Pirates had the next chance on goal in the 22nd minute when a clever ball over the top of the Chippa defence by Happy Jele was well-controlled by Kermit Erasmus, but he fired narrowly wide from 14-yards out.
Five minutes later Myeni doubled his side’s lead when he turned home a low right-wing cross from Thandani Ntshumayelo, 2-0.
Pirates controlled the flow of play for the remainder of the half, but failed to add to the scoreline.
The second 45 saw the Buccaneers continue to dictate matters, but their finishing was not as good as in the first half.
Ten minute after the restart Erasmus met a left-wing cross from Makola, but the striker headed over from close range under no pressure from any defenders.
In the 69th minute Erasmus wasted another glorious chance when substitute Lehlohonolo Masalesa slipped him through on goal, but he dragged his shot wide with just the keeper to beat.
Six minutes later some swift build-up play from Pirates saw Erasmus into space 16-yards out, but again he was denied by a good save from the keeper.
Chippa pushed numbers forward in the final ten minutes, but the Pirates defence held firm as they picked up yet another three points in the Absa Premiership, but only their first against the Chilli Boys.
