Maritzburg Ease Past Chippa

Absa Premiership

Result: Maritzburg United 3-0 Chippa United

Date: 26 August 2014

Venue: Harry Gwala Stadium

Maritzburg United clinched a comfortable 3-0 win over Chippa United to register their second victory of the new 2014/15 season in an Absa Premiership match at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

The Team of Choice grabbed the lead in the 19th minute through a Mahammed Anas' headed goal after an assist by Khumbulani Banda.

The home side started the match the better side with Nhlanhla Vilakazi, taking a shot at goal as early as the first minute of the match, but Chippa goalkeeper, Fatau Dauda, managed to easily deal with the ball.

The Steve Komphela-coached side continued to try their luck, with Ashley Hartog’s header going over the bar in the fifth minute.

The first half was also hampered by a lot of bad tackles that saw the referee awarding numerous free-kicks to both teams.

Dauda, making his Chippa debut, managed to make more important saves to keep his team trailing by a solitary Anas goal heading to the half-time break.

Maritzburg increased the lead shortly after the break as Nhlanhla Vilakazi slotted a right footed effort into the back of the net to hand his team their second goal in the 50th minute after the hard work by Anas.

Vilakazi was taken off shortly after scoring the second goal and was replaced by David Booysen.

Substitute, Sheldon Van Wyk, added the third goal towards the end of the game to hand Maritzburg a comfortable win, which handed them their second win of the new league campaign .

Here's how they lined up:

Maritzburg United: Vries, Mabaso,  Matuka,  Mngonyama, Pantsil,  Hartog,  Cele, Mkhize, Vilakazi, Banda, Anas

Chippa United: Dauda, Nene, Zulu, Sambo, Samgweni, Mbenyane, Molangaone, D Zulu, Twala, Mvelase, Cele
