Absa Premiership
Full Time: Maritzburg United 0-0 Free State Stars
Date: 28 February 2015
Venue: Harry Gwala Stadium
Maritzburg United and Free State Stars continued to stutter in the Absa Premiership after playing to a goalless draw in a league match at the Harry Gwala stadium on Saturday night.
The draw extends Maritzburg’s run to seven matches without a win in the league and sees them in ninth place on the table with 24 points.
In the same vein this was the Ea Lla Koto’s third successive draw in the Absa Premiership and sees them in 13th place on the table with 21 points, only three points outside of the relegation zone.
It was a stumbling start to the game by both teams which saw very few chance son goal early on.
The first real effort on goal came in the 16th minute when Thamsanqa Mkhize fired a 25-yard shot inches wide of the Ea Lla Koto goal.
Three minutes later Maritzburg had another chance on goal, but Anas Mohammed headed a right wing cross narrowly over the target.
The best chance of the opening half fell to Danny Venter in the 40th minute, but the Free State man saw his shot from just inside the box superbly saved by the keeper.
The half ended 0-0.
The United goalkeeper was called into action again five minutes after the break, this time denying Camaldine Abraw from range.
In the 53rd minute Terrance Mandaza should really have scored for the home side following a goalmouth scramble, but he struck the crossbar from close range.
The game fell into a bit of a lull after that as both teams squandered possession in the final third and chances on goal were at a minimal.
Kurt Lentjies almost stall the win in the dying minutes of the match with a thunderous long range effort, but the Free State keeper pulled off a wonderful save to see the game end all-square.
