Absa Premiership
Full Time: Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 Ajax Cape Town
Date: 04 March 2015
Venue: FNB Stadium
Kaizer Chiefs reached the 50 point mark in the Absa Premiership with a 1-0 win over Ajax Cape Town in a league match at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday night.
The home side controlled the early possession and made their pressure tell in the 14th minute with the opening goal courtesy of Mandla Masango.
The goal came about after a cross from the right by Siboniso Gaxa was met by George Lebese, but his 14-yard volley was well-saved by the keeper. Masango, though, was there to tap home the rebound from six-yards out, 1-0.
Ajax saw more of the ball after going behind and had their first decent chance in front of goal in the 23rd minute when Chiefs failed to clear a cross from the right and after a bit of a scramble, Toriq Losper fired inches wide from 16-yards out.
The next real effort on goal came in the 41st minute when a shot from the edge of the box by Erwin Isaacs skimmed the wrong side of the Chiefs post.
The half ended with the Amakhosi in the lead.
Chiefs had the first real chance of the second half eight minutes after the restart when good skill from George Maluleka saw him work his way into the right side of the box, but his powerful shot was superbly saved by the keeper.
Ajax controlled possession for the next 20 minutes, but struggled to break down a well-organised Amakhosi defence.
The visitors did come close to an equaliser in the 73rd minute when Nathan Paulse met a right wing cross, but his 12-yard header was brilliantly saved by Itumeleng Khune.
Seconds later, Lebese should have put the result beyond doubt when he broke behind the Ajax defence, but failed to beat the keeper in a one-on-one as he dragged his shot wide.
Ajax pressed forward for the remainder of the match, but Chiefs held on for their 15th league win of the season.
