Spoils Shared In The Soweto Derby

Absa Premiership

Score: Kaizer Chiefs 0-0 Orlando Pirates

Date: 07 March 2015

Venue: FNB Stadium

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates were forced to settle for a point after playing out to a 0-0 draw at the FNB Stadium.

The opening 20 minutes proved to be a lively affair, as Chiefs were denied a penalty in the fourth minute, although replay suggests there was contact made by Siyabonga Sangweni on George Lebese.

The first chance of the half arrived in the 20th minute, Sifiso Myeni floated an inviting cross into the box for Mpho Makola, but the midfielder failed to keep his header on target.

Stuart Baxter's charges should have went ahead in the 33rd minute, Siphiwe Tshabala picked out Eric Mathoho from a set-piece but the defender headed over from six-yards out.

That was as good as it got, as far chances were concerned, as Chiefs were quite content to sit back and let Pirates have the ball for most of the half.

While, it was a quiet opening 45 minutes for both goalkeepers, as neither had a save to make.

Chiefs came out much stronger in the second half and nearly went ahead in the 56th minute but Tshabalala's effort from distance was kept out by the woodwork.

The frame of the goal then denied Pirates in the 64th minute, as Sifiso Myeni's deflected effort off Eric Mathoho and crashed onto the crossbar.

Brighton Mhlongo came to Pirates' rescue in the 83rd minute, the shot-stopper came off his line and pulled off a fine save to keep out Bernard Parker's close range effort.

Neither side could break the deadlock in the closing stages, with Parker going close once again but he fired into the side-netting, as both sides were forced to settle for a point.

Here's how they lined up:

Kaizer Chiefs: Khune, Gaxa, Masilela, Mathoho, Mashamaite, Katsande, Masango, Letsholonyane, Lebese, Tshabalala, Parker

Orlando Pirates: Mhlongo, Jele, Mahamutsa, Sangweni, Matlaba, Sarr, Ntshumayelo, Manyisa, Myeni, Makola , Majoro
