Despite being reduced to ten men in the first half, Platinum Stars managed to register a 2-1 win over Jomo Cosmos in an Absa Premiership match at Olen Park on Sunday afternoon.
The away team started the better of the two sides and took the lead in the 12th minute when Robert Ng’ambi was slipped through on goal and made no mistake with just the keeper to beat, 1-0.
Cosmos thought they had drawn level in the 20th minute when Charlton Mashumba found the back of the net, but his goal was disallowed for handball.
On the half hour mark Stars doubled their lead when Eleazar Rodgers headed home a Mahlatse Makudubela corner-kick, 2-0.
Dikwena suffered a set-back in the 40th minute when they were reduced to ten men when Ndumiso Mabena received a straight red card for a foul on Thabang Monare.
The half ended 2-0 in favour of the visitors
Cosmos came out firing in the second half and almost pulled a goal back in the 53rd minute when Thato Lingwati fired a thunderous long range shot inches over the target.
The home side continued to press forward and finally found their reward in the 74th minute when a powerful 24-yard shot from Cheslyn Jampies found the bottom corner of the net, 2-1.
That set up a frantic final ten minutes as Cosmos laid siege on the Dikwena goal, but the away side’s defence stood firm to pick up their second win of the league season.
