Dolly Brace Hands Sundowns Win

Absa Premiership

Full Time: Jomo Cosmos 0-2 Mamelodi Sundowns

Date: 27 September 2015

Venue: Olen Park

A brace from Keagan Dolly handed Mamelodi Sundowns their third Absa Premiership win of the season after beating Jomo Cosmos 2-0 at Olen Park on Sunday afternoon.

Sundowns saw the majority of the ball early on, but struggled to break down the home side’s defence and create decent openings in front of goal.

Instead, the first shot on goal went the way of Cosmos in the 12th minute, but Sipho Mngomezulu fired over from long range.

Five minutes later Brice Aka showed great strength to burst into the Sundowns box, but saw his 16-yard effort superbly saved by Dennis Onyango.

In the 22nd minute Sundowns managed their first effort on goal and it resulted in a goal when Keagan Dolly headed home a left-wing cross from Themba Zwane, 1-0.

Cosmos nearly hit back ten minutes later when a deflected 22-yard free-kick from Cheslyn Jampies shaved the wrong side of the post with the keeper completely beaten.

Neither side could add to the scoreline as the half ended 1-0 in favour of the visitors.

Three minutes into the second half a great save from Sherwyn Naicker kept Cosmos in the game when he superbly denied Zwane from only a couple of yards out after some good work down the left flank by Katlego Mashego.

In the 58th minute Thabang Monare came close to finding the equaliser for Cosmos when his low 25-yard shot skimmed the wrong side of the post.

Anthony Laffor came close to finding his side’s second when the Sundowns attacker volleyed inches over the target from just inside the box in the 67th minute.

Charlton Mashumba almost rescued a point for Cosmos when he brilliantly controlled a ball into the box by Mician Mhone, but he fired into the side netting from 12-yards out.

Sundowns made certain of the win in the 93rd minute when a quick counter-attack saw Laffor play Dolly into space and he made no mistake with a clinical finish, 2-0.
